AILET Exam Pattern 2025 – BA LLB, LLM, Ph.D.
AILET stands for All India Law Entrance Test and is conducted by the National Law University, Delhi. This year, the exam will be held for 150 Questions, carrying 150 Marks. The Exam duration will be 120 Minutes or 2 Hours. There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks for the wrong answer, which will be deducted.
AILET Syllabus 2025 & Exam Pattern PDF [BA LLB]
- The AILET 2025 for the UG programme will have three (3) sections of 150 multiple-choice questions for 150 marks in total. The duration of the examination is 120 minutes.
- The three sections will be:
Section A: English Language (50 questions; 50 marks).
Section B: Current Affairs & General Knowledge (30 questions; 30 marks).
Section C: Logical Reasoning (70 questions; 70 marks).
Legal principles may be used in the logical reasoning section to test logical aptitude, but the examination will not require any kind of legal knowledge or technical understanding. - Negative marking: There will be Negative Marking in AILET 2025. The criteria for negative marking will be based on the formula 0.25*4=1 means that for a wrong answer, 0.25 Marks will be deducted. Therefore, four wrong answers will lead to a deduction of 1 Mark.
- If two or more candidates get the same marks at the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET), their merit will be determined on the basis of higher marks in the section on LOGICAL REASONING in the AILET 2025.
- If the merit is still the same, then the candidate senior in age shall get preference. If there is still no change in merit, then a computerized draw of lots shall be taken into consideration.

- The entrance tests for LL.M. Programme will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) based only.
- The test paper will consist of 100 MCQs with each question carrying 1 mark.
- All the 100 MCQs will be from the different branches of Law.
- The duration of the examination will be 120 minutes.
- Negative marking: There will be Negative Marking in AILET 2025. The criteria for negative marking will be based on the formula 0.25*4=1 that means per wrong answer 0.25 Marks will be deducted. Therefore, four wrong answers will lead to deduction of one (1) mark.
- If two or more candidates get the same marks at the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) their merit will be decided as follows:
a) Senior Age;
b) Computerized draw of lots

The syllabus of AILET 2025 for Ph.D. Programme is as follows:
Entrance Test pattern:
- The entrance test will be Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) based only.
- The test paper will consist of 100 MCQs, with each question carrying 1 mark.
Test Composition:
- 50 MCQs will be from the subject of Research Methodology.
- For Ph.D. in Law, the remaining 50 MCQs will be from different branches of Law.
Negative Marking:
- There will be negative marking in the AILET 2025 entrance test.
- The criteria for negative marking will be based on the formula 0.25 * 4 = 1, which means for every wrong answer, 0.25 marks will be deducted. Therefore, four wrong answers will lead to a deduction of one (1) mark.
Exemption for JRF Holders and Foreign Nationals:
- Candidates who hold a valid Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Foreign Nationals are exempted from the All India Entrance Test.
